The timeless pilgrimage — travelling overland through Tibet to perform the sacred Parikrama of Mount Kailash and take a holy dip in Mansarovar Lake. Ex Kathmandu.

Mount Kailash stands as the most revered unclimbed peak on earth — not because no one has tried, but because no religion permits it. Hindus call it Meru Parvat, the cosmic axis where Lord Shiva sits in eternal meditation with Goddess Parvati. Tibetan Buddhists know it as Kang Rinpoche, the Precious Snow Jewel. Jains revere it as Ashtapada, where Rishabhdev attained Moksha. The Bon tradition considers it their most sacred site.
The overland route via Kathmandu and Kyirong is the most complete way to undertake this sacred yatra. You journey through Nepal, cross into Tibet at the Kyirong border, and travel across the vast Tibetan plateau before arriving at Darchen — the starting point of the 52-kilometre Kailash Parikrama (circumambulation). A single complete Kora is believed to wash away the sins of a lifetime. In a Horse Year, the merit is said to multiply manifold.
The sacred circumambulation of Mount Kailash — via Deraphuk, Dolma La Pass (5,630m), and Zutulpuk — as described in ancient scriptures.
Bathe in the sacred Mansarovar Lake at 4,590 metres — an act believed to liberate the soul from countless lifetimes of karmic debt.

Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel. Complete yatra formalities, collect Tibet documentation, and attend a pre-departure briefing. Evening visit to Pashupatinath Temple — one of the most sacred Shiva temples in the world — for divine blessings before the journey begins.
Visit Boudhanath Stupa and Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) for spiritual grounding. Final gear check and group meeting. Evening at leisure for personal shopping and preparation. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Drive north through the lush hills of Nepal toward Dhunche — a scenic mountain town at the edge of Langtang National Park. The landscape begins to shift from tropical lowlands to Himalayan foothills. Overnight in Dhunche.
Cross the Nepal-Tibet border at Rasuwagadhi-Kyirong. Complete immigration formalities and enter the Tibetan Autonomous Region. The landscape transforms dramatically as you arrive in Kyirong — a green, river-carved valley unlike the typical image of barren Tibet. Overnight in Kyirong.
A vital rest day in Kyirong to allow the body to begin adjusting to altitude before the long drive across the Tibetan plateau. Explore the small town, visit a local monastery, and prepare mentally and physically for the journey ahead.
A long but extraordinary drive across the Tibetan plateau. The road opens onto vast, empty landscapes where the sky seems impossibly large and the horizon stretches endlessly. Arrive in Saga — a small Tibetan settlement that serves as a staging post for Kailash-bound pilgrims.
The most anticipated day of the overland journey. Drive across the plateau and arrive at the sacred Lake Mansarovar — the highest freshwater lake in the world, revered since the age of the Vedas. Perform the holy dip in the glacial waters. Offer prayers at the lakeside. Witness a sunset over Kailash that no photograph can adequately capture. Overnight at Mansarovar.
Short drive to Darchen — the base camp village at the foot of Mount Kailash and the traditional starting point of the Parikrama. Acclimatise, rest, offer prayers at the Darchen temple, and prepare your body and spirit for the three-day circumambulation beginning tomorrow. Overnight in Darchen.
Begin the sacred 52 km Kailash Parikrama. Trek from Darchen through the Lha-chu Valley, passing Tarboche — the traditional flagpole site — and several ancient meditation caves. Arrive at Deraphuk, where the North Face of Mount Kailash reveals itself in full, awe-inspiring glory at close range. Overnight in Deraphuk guesthouse.
The most challenging and spiritually intense day of the entire yatra. Ascend to Dolma La Pass (5,630m) — the highest point of the Parikrama and one of the most sacred passes in the Himalayan world. Descend past the serene Gauri Kund lake to Zutulpuk. Every step is considered a sacred act. Overnight at Zutulpuk Monastery guesthouse.
Complete the final 8 km of the Parikrama back to Darchen — the circumambulation of Kailash is now complete. Receive blessings from your guide and fellow pilgrims. Drive onward to Dongba for an overnight rest. You carry with you the merit of one complete Kora.
Begin the return journey across the Tibetan plateau, retracing westward toward Kyirong. The return drive offers different light, different moods, and time for reflection after the intensity of the Parikrama. Overnight in Kyirong.
Cross back into Nepal at Rasuwagadhi. Descend through the Langtang foothills and return to Kathmandu. A warm welcome back to the lower altitude — your body will feel the relief. Check into hotel for the final night of this sacred journey. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward flight to Delhi or your home city. The yatra is complete. You carry its blessings for the rest of this life and beyond.
